Happy Saint Patrick’s Day!,

Some of my memories from two tours of Ulster in the 80s.

“Bobby Sands, your pizza is ready!”

I have to admit, I have memories of seeing seals in Strangford Lough while on patrol and somewhat passive memories of those years. I remember seeing something from one of the IRA leaders that said they knew the average British squaddie joined up for economic reasons, and they sympathised with that. That meant the UDR and RUC were typically the targets of most of their aggression. Not that we didn’t keep our eyes open just in case.

BTW, the UDR was the largest Unit in the British Army during my service.
