CLE, Covid-19, and social distancing

One of the best bits about all this social distancing nonsense is that I don’t have to travel to complete my CLE (see previous rants). The Pennsylvania Powers that Be have decided that all 12 hours can be completed online. [1] I do have a course I like to take which nets me a good portion of my annual 12 hours, but that may be put on hold like everything else seems to be.

Social distancing seems to be the new fad with the liberal elite, especially in the US. These are the people who can afford to not work for the period in question, or are lucky enough to have jobs that they can telecommute to. There isn’t a lot of sympathy for people who are living on the edge and can’t afford to take a week off, let alone a possible two years.

I understand the protests in the US. But as the Beatles said in Revolution:

But when you talk about destruction
Don’t you know that you can count me out..
But if you want money for people with minds that hate
All I can tell is brother you have to wait…
But if you go carrying pictures of chairman Mao
You ain’t going to make it with anyone anyhow

The point being you’re going to turn people off if you go around carrying guns and “symbols of hate” for whatever misguided reason. Maybe that’s what these people want to do. But it’s not helping their cause.

This is the opposite side of the liberals with Trump Derangement Syndrome. people should be working together at this time instead of antagonising each other.

There are a couple of good pieces written by someone named Peter Kruger called What don’t most liberals realize? and What don’t most conservatives realize?  which get a lot of what is wrong with the political climate in the US.

The bungling of this situation has come from both sides of the US Duopoly. Unfortunately no one wants to talk about it. OK Sagar Enjeti does, but he’s one of the few. Although using something like South Korea’s system of testing and tracking wouldn’t fly in the US, which means that something which is less restrictive yet contains the virus until a treatment or vaccine is found (Think Sweden or Holland).

Anyway, I’m not in a position to be too helpful here other than make comments on what I see online.

Footnotes:
[1] DC doesn’t have a CLE requirement. I have considered going inactive in PA because of the CLE requirement, but there are online services which offer CLE for a very reasonable price. I use ACCESS MCLE, LLC because it’s a whole lot less expensive than the bar associations. And fairly painless to do.
